Case study 03 · Founder & developer

Traxl.Know your family is safe.

Traxl is a family location-sharing app built for India. Everyone in your Circle appears on one shared map, with arrival and departure alerts for home, school and work, a one-tap SOS broadcast, trip mode with checkpoints, multi-day path history and per-member drive reports. Background location is battery-friendly, only Circle members ever see it, and it all runs on a self-hosted Node.js backend funded by ads plus a subscription.

The problem

Location-sharing apps built for the US are expensive, drain the battery on mid-range Android phones and ignore how Indian families actually use them. Traxl had to be cheap to run, light on battery and reliable on patchy networks.

What I built

The whole product: Android app, real-time backend, alerting, reports and monetisation, on infrastructure I host myself to keep costs low.

  • 01

    Shared map & Circles

Battery-friendly background location shared with your Circle, with arrival/departure alerts and a one-tap SOS broadcast.

  • 02

Geofences, quiet hours & trip mode

Geofence alerts for home, school and work with quiet hours, trip mode with checkpoints, and multi-day path history.

  • 03

    Drive reports

Per-member reports: distance, top and average speed, halts, active hours and distance-by-day charts.

  • 04

    Self-hosted backend & monetisation

Node.js backend on my own server; only Circle members see a location. Funded with ads and a Google Play subscription.
